In 7% of women, this can continue up to 3 months post-partum and in 2% it will be present for up to 1 year & 1% up to 2 years.
The Pelvic Girdle is a ring-like bony structure that connects the spine with the lower limbs. The joints of the spine and the pelvic girdle can be affected by the hormonal changes, increased weight and muscle adaptations related to pregnancy. This can result in pain, difficulty lifting or opening the leg/s, turning over or lying on the side.
Physiotherapy can help by improving the movement in the joints with manual therapy techniques, exercises to strengthen the muscles, massage to relieve tight, sore muscles and education to manage pain. Modified Pilate’s Exercises done individually or in a class setting are a great way to maintain or improve your strength and posture during and after your pregnancy.
Post Breast cancer surgery

Breast cancer affects both women & men. During breast cancer surgery it is necessary for the surgeon to remove not only the cancer but the some of the skin, muscle and fascia in the breast. It may also be necessary to move lymph nodes from the armpit.
After breast cancer surgery, shoulder and upper back and neck mobility can be limited, the strength /stability of the shoulder girdle can be reduced and postural changes can occur. In some people, the arm, chest or upper back can become swollen with lymph fluid – a condition known as lymphedema.
Physiotherapy treatments can include;
- Simple Lymphedema Massage (SLDM)
- Manual Therapy to aid joint mobility
- Strengthening Exercises to improve shoulder stability, strength & improve posture
- Stretches to aid mobility and reduce discomfort from tight skin
- Advice & Education
- Improved wellbeing through being active

Rehabilitation
Symptoms which persist for more than 4-12 weeks after an infection consistent with Covid 19.
You may present with clusters of symptoms, often overlapping, which may change over time & can affect any system within the body. This can make your daily activities, as well as your ability to work, a challenge. With this, recovery & rehabilitation have to be mindful of underlying cardiac or vascular conditions which can commonly present.
Physiotherapists, with their multi-system knowledge, are well-placed to provide a holistic, patient-centred rehabilitation approach.

These are commonly known as Musculoskeletal (MSK) Disorders & may occur following an injury or without a clear cause.
We are skilled at rehabilitation preparing for or following Orthopaedic / other surgery.
Physiotherapy interventions include hands-on treatment combined with exercise rehabilitation, advice & education.
The appointment will include:
- Assessment to establish diagnosis & treatment plan
- Appropriate, evidence-based treatment, education & advice on your condition, how to self-manage & progress
- Access to an exercise app
- The assessment consists of questions, observations & clinical tests. Please wear clothing that is comfortable to move around in, and allows your Physio to see the affected area.
- Treatment may include manipulation, soft tissue massage, acupuncture, electrotherapy, exercise rehabilitation & postural correction using approaches such as Pilates.
